RAiNA Hosted Member Webinar: 2025 NYC Energy Conservation Code (NYCECC) – Updates to Building Enclosure Design
Wednesday, May 20, 2026 (12:00 PM - 1:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
The latest New York City Energy Conservation Code (NYCECC) went into effect on 30 March 2026, mandating stricter requirements for building projects in the city. The revisions in this new code aim to improve energy performance, but they also introduce design and construction challenges that can impact schedules and budgets. Join RAINA as we speak with Anya LaRoche and Cheryl Saldanha from Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) about these new changes from a building enclosure perspective and discuss how project stakeholders can prepare to meet compliance requirements. We will focus on how these changes will affect exterior rainscreen design requirements and modeling practices to strengthen building performance.
In this webinar, we will provide a brief overview of the following changes:
- Thermal bridging requirements and compliance options.
- Opaque wall U-factor and R-value requirements.
- Air-leakage testing requirements and criteria.
- Existing and historic building retrofits.
- Additional efficiency credit requirements.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Understand the code change process for New York City.
- Identify energy code compliance paths.
- Understand significant energy code changes related to exterior rainscreen assemblies.
- Recognize how these regulations apply to new construction and existing buildings.
