This presentation will provide important aspects regarding moisture management of new stucco and adhered stone assemblies compared to traditional mass walls. Common failures in walls with stucco cladding will be reviewed to understand the importance of drainage and drying. Building science principles behind the rainscreen strategy for rain control will be provided and wetting and drying mechanisms will be discussed. Some typical details will be reviewed to discuss best practices for the ventilated rainscreen approach to stucco and adhered stone assemblies.
